Some photos to carry you into the weekend...
Just today I really felt it, that we are heading into winter, and the golden days of autumn are fading. Now we see the darker part of autumn, the rain and wind and cold and damp (here in the Pacific Northwest, anyway). It's days like this I understand so well the need for winter celebrations. Rejoicing in the light to come. The birth of the sun in the depth of darkness.
And yet there is a wild beauty in this time of year, as well. The wind blows absolute frolic into the girls. It makes them stampede like little Chincoteague ponies. Everything outside is being stripped bare, and we spend hours watching flocks of the tiniest of birds outside our window. So much beauty, even now, and I feel just right taking this time of year to pause and give thanks. For what has come before, during this year. For what is to come, still. For the dark and the light both.

I love the sort of weather you describe here. Wild beauty. But I know most people don't! The photos are wonderful.

your photos are simply breathtaking...

Beautiful post, Kyrie.
And I also LOVE your new banner! It seems like yesterday was the day! (Even though we've had feet of snow already, it was still feeling more autumny in the cast of light, etc. And yesterday, it just seemed -- less appropriate.)
Here in England, what signals approaching winter most for me is how early in the afternons we now have to put on all the lights and draw the curtains. This past week it is getting dark by about 4.30pm. I always notice the shifting hours of daylight and darkness now that I have the chickens who need shuttting in at dusk. I love this time of year, though - as you say, the austere beauty, the turning-inwards, lighting the lamps and the fire...
I love the pictures and the words, there is beauty in both. Goodbye Autumn!
what lovely thoughts. i have never thought of winter as a wild beauty, but i can see it now. we live in a more tropical climate, and still wear shorts and play outside without jackets. trees are not barren, many have not even changed colors, many, still, have new buds appearing. i will stop to watch this untamed beauty when our winter comes.
this is a lovely post, it's made me stop and be still and enjoy - we are going into the opposite seasons, they all have such beauty.

lovely pictures & thoughts. I need a way to get into a better mindset about winter.
