Steiner quote: new each week

All knowledge pursued merely for the enrichment of personal learning and the accumulation of personal treasure leads you away from the path; but all knowledge pursued for growth to ripeness within the process of human ennoblement and cosmic development brings you a step forward.

I walk with my little lantern

Balloon lanterns, drying, two days before (the girls made these themselves, I just cut out the stars and moon Bunny requested and the sun Birdie requested)

Lanterns lit

So very excited

Out for the walk

Clementines wrapped and waiting (a chocolate bar too)

All lovelies devoured at the end of a wonderful evening

Me: "Oh, there is only one of this gift [chocolate bar]."

Bunny, whispering with reverence: "We should cut it in two like St. Martin!"

Tonight, the simplest of celebrations- candlelight, firelight, two little girls carrying their little lanterns and singing made-up lanterns songs with great, great joy, one perfect clementine each, a story about St. Martin, and one chocolate bar to share amongst us. For bedtime, Daddy read this book.

The girls were so eager to share with one another and with us, I'm not sure they really got much chocolate for themselves. Birdie, my sweet tooth, bit her last bite in two and gave the resulting pieces to Bunny and I.

Happy Martinmas, everyone.

p.s. Don't forget to ask a question to win this book (and yes, you are welcome to ask more than one question, though it will still just count as one entry).

How beautiful! Your photos really seem to capture the wonder of it all. Doesn't it feel good as a parent to see generosity pouring out of your little ones? Especially when we realize how hard it can be to share sometimes.

Oh my, how beautiful! Heart-catchingly beautiful. I wish it was winter here so I could do this.

The heart behind all of your mothering efforts is what glows brightest here, though the lanterns are magical. xo!

Lovely simple celebration.
Do you have a specific St. Martin story that you read? The ones I have found have been a bit over the boys' heads.

I think we are kindred spirits. I have three little and big ones and oh so much in common. I check you out everyday and it is like there you are you read my mind. Just what I was thinking, feeling and planning on doing. You are wonderful!!! Inside and out!

What a cute idea!

I love the Elsa Beskow books, and have been slowly adding them to our collection. The mini additions are so much cheaper, but how do you like the format? I've only been buying the big ones (hence the slowly adding them to our collection), and I've been so curious about the layout of the mini additions. Thanks for your help!

Those lanterns are beautiful. But even more so is the sharing between the kids. I so want to instill this in my girls but it's not something that comes naturally to them (or me).
